Japan in 5, 7 or 10 days: choose the pace first

For a first Japan trip, the useful decision is how many hotel bases your available time can support. Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka offer different experiences, but adding all three to a short trip consumes time packing, checking out and travelling. JNTO recommends a single base with day trips when you have a week or less; around ten days to two weeks gives a more comfortable window for a wider route.

Count days in Japan separately from nights away from India. A late arrival gives you a hotel night rather than a full sightseeing day. Protect your must-see experience on a middle day, with your first and last days kept flexible until flights are confirmed.

A five-day Tokyo holiday: four nights, one hotel

  • Day 1: arrival, hotel check-in and a light local evening if time allows.
  • Day 2: Asakusa, with time to explore rather than booking a second distant area.
  • Day 3: Shibuya, adding another stop only after checking your hotel and transport connections.
  • Day 4: Meiji Shrine or your personal priority; keep some time free for weather or a slower morning.
  • Day 5: departure, allowing time for baggage collection and the airport journey.

This follows the Tokyo focus of the five-day Comfort Escape. Any addition changes the brief and needs a revised quote; a place mentioned here is not automatically an included guided visit.

A week versus ten days: what changes?

The published seven-day Signature Holiday connects Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka. Its day-wise plan reserves days 4 and 6 for travel and day 7 for departure. Choose it if covering three bases matters more than unhurried time in each; do not mistake seven calendar days for seven full sightseeing days.

For a tailored ten-day brief, consider arrival and three sightseeing days in Tokyo, a transfer day to Kyoto, two Kyoto days, a move to Osaka, one Osaka day and departure. This is a proposed allocation to discuss, not an additional published package. In Kyoto prioritise Fushimi Inari and Arashiyama on separate outings; in Osaka compare Dotonbori with your interest in Osaka Castle or Kuromon Market. Ask the planner to verify access, transport and opening days before making the sequence final.

Flights, trains and luggage shape the route

Ask whether arriving in Tokyo and leaving from the final region is practical for your flights, rather than automatically returning to your first hotel. Compare the full journey price and timings. For rail travel, JNTO notes that a JR Pass does not cover every city subway and that Nozomi and Mizuho services need an additional ticket with the pass. Compare actual journeys before buying a nationwide pass.

For Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hyderabad or Delhi, share your actual departure airport and compare total journey time, baggage and local arrival date. From Mysore (Mysuru), include the journey to your chosen airport and a check-in buffer. From Gujarat, specify Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara or your actual starting city. Flight schedules and connections are checked for your dates; no direct service or local branch is implied.

Choose a published route or request a tailored version

Published examples: Japan Essentials (3N/4D) starts at ₹72,500; Japan Signature Holiday (6N/7D) starts at ₹1,69,690 per adult before taxes. These are land-package estimates, not a flight-inclusive total or a guarantee of availability for your dates.

Read the Japan budget guide to separate flights, hotel nights and intercity travel. For a family, share children’s ages, room sharing, walking comfort and luggage needs. For a honeymoon, choose which evenings and slower mornings you want to keep free before filling the itinerary with optional outings.
